Fluoride Applications
Cavities are caused by bacteria that are found in plaque around the teeth and gums. Regular brushing and flossing, along with professional cleanings help to prevent tooth decay. Another key to oral health is fluoride which is a mineral that helps to prevent cavities and can even repair them in very early stages.
What is Fluoride?
Fluoride can be found in certain foods and in most city water supplies as well as in toothpastes and mouthrinses. Additionally, we recommend in-office, professional fluoride treatments to help protect the teeth of children and adults who are at a higher risk of developing cavities. These treatments offer a higher concentration of fluoride than products you can buy over-the-counter.
What can I expect with Fluoride Treatment?
These treatments are fast, easy and painless. The fluoride is a gel, foam or varnish and is applied with a swab, brush or in a tray that is held in the mouth for a few minutes. After your treatment, you should not eat or drink for a short time to allow your teeth to absorb the fluoride.
