Kicking Teeth Sensitivity Away

Kicking Teeth Sensitivity Away
BY Smile Dental Studio

Teeth sensitivity is not as talked about as cavities or gingivitis. However, the impact of this dental condition is just as severe as conditions previously mentioned. The thing about teeth sensitivity is that it severely affects the quality of your life, limiting the things which you can eat without feeling the pangs of pain immediately after. If you’re fed up with teeth sensitivity, here are some of your options:

  1. Start brushing gently.

Yes, brushing will do your pearly whites a lot of good, but the thing is if you are too heavy-handed when you brush your teeth, then you could be doing more harm than good. This is because you could cause mechanical damage on the enamel layer of your tooth, destroying the protective layer. If you’re concerned that you won’t be able to clean your teeth as thoroughly as you would like to without forceful brushing, then try using gentle, circular strokes which work just as well. Or switch to a battery-operated toothbrush.

  1. Use a fluoride-rich toothpaste.

Teeth sensitivity is essentially a call for help sent out by your teeth that the enamel layer is badly in need of some TLC. When it comes to strengthening the enamel layer, nothing does it better than brushing with a fluoride-rich toothpaste. Fluoride is needed for the remineralization of enamel crystals in order to strengthen the external layer of your teeth and make it more resistant to damage either due to cavities, erosion or trauma to the area.

  1. Visit your dentist.

Sometimes, you need to have the problem solved by the pros. Your dentist can suggest various procedures in order to limit the extent of the sensitivity. For mild cases, your dentist can suggest that you undergo fluoride gel treatments or varnishes in order to coat the enamel layer and keep external substances out. If this does not work or if the extent of the damage is just too great, then you might need to go for composite bonding, veneers or crowns in order to reinforce the worn out enamel.

Crowns and veneers are porcelain dental works that are attached to the vulnerable tooth. On the other hand, composite bonding procedures involve the use of a tooth-colored composite resin material which is then sculpted on the surface of the tooth in order to reconstruct the damaged tooth. While these procedures cost more than simply purchasing a numbing toothpaste, they provide lasting relief from teeth sensitivity.
